A rare manuscript. A midnight promise. A man who would steal them both away.
Pressured by looming deadlines and an annoying patron, Evie Brown, an academic librarian, struggles to find joy this Christmas holiday. Worse, her sick father is ready to abandon treatments and surrender to fate – a decision she refuses to accept. Delving into a medieval manuscript, she searches for answers in the distant past.
For the woman who has stolen his heart, only a perfect proposal will do. Ash Lockwood, botanist, has transformed the rooftop greenhouse into a tropical fairyland. But when Evie begs him to help her harvest mistletoe at midnight, they venture down a different garden path, unaware that danger circles close.
When their plans implode and a murderer threatens their lives, only invention and teamwork will save them.
Christmas in steampunk Victorian England! What could be better. I don’t usually go for Christmas themed books because I find them to be rather sappy, but I can’t resist an Anne Renwick story and this one is no exception. I was also very pleased to see

Others in this series:
In a laboratory behind the walls of a castle, Natalia Zakharova Kinross, Lady of Kinlarig, hides her many secrets. But for how much longer? For not only is a medical miracle embedded within her skin, a mythological dragon prowls the grounds. And there are men who will stop at little to lay claim to both.
Though Luke Dryden, cryptozoologist, is welcomed back to the castle at the tip of a blade, an old romance ignites. Until a lingering illness acquired in a secret biotechnology facility takes a turn for the worse – all while disaster circles. To help defend a lady and her dragon, he must attempt a risky cure.
As old enemies threaten their future, they will fight back to back in a desperate last stand…
In short, listen to the audiobook. My full review of the book itself is here. I enjoyed this story just as much the second time as I did when I first read the book. I really enjoy Natalia and Luke as individuals and as a couple. The science here is also fascinating. But my favorite character in this one is still Kia, the dragon. She has such a precocious personality, I find myself delighted every time she appears. In terms of the audiobook, I really enjoyed this narrator and her narration of the story. She previously narrated “A Trace of Copper” which is one of my favorites in this series. I think Ms. Renwick made and excellent choice with this narrator. If your new to steampunk and want to give it a try this audiobook would be a great way to do that. If you already love steampunk than you need to add this one to your library.

Shunned for her odd eyes and an unnerving habit of slipping into shadows, Lady Colleen Stewart refuses to be caged–should she decide to marry, it’ll be for love and to a man of her choice. After all, she’d rather be racing over rooftops than waltzing across ballroom floors. So when the only man to ever tempt her heart invites her on a covert mission, she leaps into danger.
Nicholas Torrington, Queen’s agent, is running out of time. While work has him chasing his tail, his sister grows increasingly ill, and Colleen, the woman he would make his bride, has acquired another, determined suitor. To coax his favorite thief back into his arms, he’ll break every rule and lead her through the underbelly of London on a hunt for a mad scientist and a cure for his sister.
But the discovery of a burned-out laboratory provides more questions than answers, and they find themselves caught in a deadly game where they have become the prey. Surviving the ambitions of their pursuers will bring everything into sharp focus as they risk their very lives.
I love a little jaunt in Victorian England and Anne Renwick is the perfect author to go there with. Lady Colleen is a delightful character and her secret life makes her a definite mystery. Nicholas is a dashing gentleman and the two of them just can’t get enough of each other. I found their romance to be just too cute. As usual in these Elemental Web Tales, there are lots of gadgets and Colleen has some interesting places to hide things. These two will face mortal danger in their effort to get out from under Colleen’s uncle’s thumb. The story takes some intriguing turns along the way and was never boring. I continue to be delighted by Anne Renwick’s stories and look forward to many more. Highly recommend!

An Elemental Web Tale Book 1
This is what I call a short and oh so sweet story. I just adore the world that Anne Renwick has created in this series and this story is no exception. In this one Lady Emily and Luca and racing to find a cure for a deadly poison. Readers were first introduced to these characters in “The Golden Spider” and they continue to delight. This story has romance and action, good and evil all in about 50 pages. Oh, and don’t forget all the cool steampunk contraptions. Short story perfection with this one!

An Elemental Web Tale Book 4
Dragons, Steampunk, Romance, Sword Fights! What more could you ask for in a fantasy book? “In Pursuit of Dragons” is the latest installment from Anne Renwick. In this one we have Russian born Natalia who was forced into a loveless marriage and locked away in a castle in Scotland. This is intended to protect her and the dragon under her care. Now she is alone and dragon hunters are battering down the door. Suddenly, a man from the past appears, but does he bring hope for the future or is danger following his every step?
Let’s just start with the cover, because I just love this one. The colors on this one really caught my eye and drew me in to the story. Characters: Natalia is so likeable and I couldn’t help but be sympathetic of her situation. She’s also a mighty warrior when it comes to protecting her own and she’s not willing to be pushed around by men anymore. Luke is handsome, charming and determined to be with Natalia. Kia is my favorite character in this story. She is fiercely protective when she needs to be but also very loving. I found the story to be original and innovative. There are some very interesting twists throughout and I had a really hard time putting this down. Anne Renwick has once again created a story that is charming and romantic and full of fascinating science references. I have yet to be disappointed by this author and look forward to many more.

The Elemental Web Chronicles Book 3
When I was growing up my favorite fantasy world was the Land of Oz, which I loved for its complexity and the ingenious mechanics that would pop up periodically (a city that can raise and lower itself to the bottom of a lake?!). There was also something delightful to read about. Anne Renwick has created a steampunk world that is equally delightful. Even more so in this this installment because there is a whole crew of hunky naval guys as supporting characters.
In this installment of the Elemental Web Chronicles we meet Isa and Alec who are on a mission to save a castle and capture a megalodon. Isa is a young woman who has been a widow for a year. She has some medical training, though she is not a doctor, and she travels amongst the villages of the Finn people helping those in need of medical attention. She is half Scottish and half Finn and has some of the distinctive characteristics of the Finn. Her marriage was a disappointment and she is not interested in giving up her independence. Alec is a naval officer who leads a highly trained team that specializes in covert operations. He has never been interested in marriage because he doesn’t want to repeat the disastrous relationship of his parents. When Alec is injured while on an underwater mission he is sidelined from his team and instead asked to track down rumors of seamen being attacked by octopus in the North Sea. This is when he meets Isa, and to say that sparks fly would be a huge understatement. As they work together to uncover the secrets of the megalodon and the octopus both will put their lives on the line.
I think this is my favorite book so far in this series. I felt an instant connection to the main characters and I just love the way they play off of each other. There is no holding back with these two, no playing hard to get, they want to be together but they also want it on their own terms. The story also holds quite a lot of surprises and moves at an excellent pace. Once I picked it up, I was very reluctant to put it down. For me, this is another homerun from Anne Renwick.

Another journey into the steampunk world and this little book does not disappoint. I don’t read much in this genre but I cannot pass up an Anne Renwick story. This one is book 2 in the Elemental Web Tale series and at a little over 100 pages, is perfect if your short on time. The story is set in Wales and tells the story of Dr. Piyali Mukherji, an Indian woman who is a medical doctor and a Queen’s Agent, and Evan Tredegar, a pharmacist to whom she was once engaged. When a young lady develops an infection which is turning her skin blue, Dr. Piyali is sent to investigate. When she arrives in the Welsh village she finds herself in the presence of Evan whom she hasn’t seen in 4 years. Now they must find a cure and sort out their fractured relationship.
I really enjoyed these two and the side characters who are woven into the story. As with her other stories, the author has created characters with depth and humanity, and in some cases a little more than a touch of evil. I also enjoyed the village she created for the story. I was really drawn into the setting and the time period. As usual, there are some good science lessons incorporated also which lend an intellectual component. Great characters, a well-developed story line, and a charming setting all make for a story I highly recommend.
