Book Review: “Past Imperfections” by M. A. R. Unger

This is book 3 in the Mattie James Mysteries series. I enjoyed it so much that I am now going to have to read the first 2 books in the series. Mattie James is a delightful detective with a slightly quirky personality. She is often accompanied by Abby, who she calls an InBetweener because she is a spirit who can appear to certain people in physical form. Mattie works for the Foothill Canyons Detective Agency but she also works for the coroner’s office as a facial reconstructionist. Her two jobs collide in this mystery when she is hired by a reportedly dead woman and also must reconstruct the face of an unidentified plane crash victim. Mattie has a whole cast of associates that join her in her detecting, including members of the local police force and a former lover. This story is full of little twists and surprises and should be an enjoyable read for mystery lovers and would make a great choice for your summer reading list.
