Book Review: “Evicted” by Matthew Desmond

Book Review: “Evicted” by Matthew Desmond

A powerful statement on an American tragedy! The difficulties that low-income renters face because of the ease of evictions is heartbreaking. In this book, Matthew Desmond uses the real life stories of low-income renters in the city of Milwaukee to shine a spotlight on the problems caused by eviction. Mr. Desmond actually lived as a low-income renter so that he could study the issue of evictions up close. I had always assumed that evictions were reserved for criminals and drug addicts, but my eyes were opened while reading this book. This book is full of stories and facts, and the author has done a fabulous job of weaving the facts into the stories so the book reads more like a novel than a work of non-fiction. This is a social issue that needs to part of our national conversation.

Alinefromabook’s recommendation is TWO THUMBS-UP. This book is appropriate for teens and up.

Happy Reading!
